This is a bulk email that I sent out on 8/31/05
I am on a final push to get the plight of Dr. Rafil Dhafir known. The media has been no help in informing the public about this case. I attended his trial for 17 weeks and I am convinced that his Iraqi descent and Muslim faith meant that he did not receive equal justice. I felt compelled to start a website so that people could have access to information about the trial that otherwise would not be available.
Please circulate this email as far and wide as possible, so that we might bring some attention to Dr. Dhafir and his situation before his sentencing on October, 19th.
I set up a “shop” where people can buy t-shirts, bumper sticker and pins, to support Dr. Dhafir. All profits go to his defense fund (and later to his appeal fund). Each item is printed with the words:
Justice for Dhafir
Www.dhafirtrial.net
My hope is that these products will encourage people to visit my website for a much fuller picture of the case than has been provided by the media.
People can visit the “shop” at: DhafirJustice
I have been trying to let people know about Dr. Dhafir’s case since I started attending the trial in October 2004. I have not had much success. These words of Winston Churchill, from October 29, 1941 have given me encouragement:
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”
(This quote was taken from a letter by Greg Bates of Common Courage Press.)
This case has never been about just Dr. Dhafir for me. It has always been about what is happening to civil liberties and the rule of law in this country at this time. This is a discussion that “we the people” desperately need to have. I encourage you to act.
