[I have had no response to the first two emails and sent a third one today.]

Dear Eric Lichtblau, 4/11/06

I met you at your Syracuse University Law School lecture and you told me I should send some links about the case of Dr. Dhafir. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

I hope you will be able to give the case some coverage.

Katherine Hughes

Dr. Dhafir is made the sole honorary member of the Brussels Tribunal Advisory Committee. Other members include Denis Halliday and Hans Von Sponeck, the 2 UN people who resigned because of the “genocidal” policy of sanctions against Iraq:

Dear Eric Lichtblau,

I talked with you at Syracuse University about the case of Dr. Rafil Dhafir. I sent you the things you requested 10 days ago, but I am not sure if you received them.

Below is an article that has just been published about Dr. Dhafir. Internationally his case is gaining a lot of attention and I think it is important for people in this country to know about the case, please give it some coverage.

If you are not going to cover it please let me know so that I will not waste your time and my time trying to contact you. Also, I would be grateful to know if you have received my emails. “Received” in the subject line is all that I would need.

I hope you will cover this very important case.

My best to you,
Katherine Hughes

Stand up for Humanity

…DR RAFIL DHAFIR, an Iraqi American medical doctor and specialist
oncologist, was sentenced in 2005 to 22 years imprisonment as a result of
sending food and medical supplies to Iraq during the Sanctions period. It
can be readily estimated from the latest UN infant mortality figures that
the Iraqi under-5 infant mortality under Sanctions totalled 1.2 million in
the period 1990-2003 and have totalled 0.4 million post-invasion. Dr Dhafir
is the only Honorary Member of the distinguished Brussells Tribunal
humanitarian organization…

…Both Dr Dhafir and Dr Kendall-Smith are still alive. They are both
medical doctors who have been imprisoned in Western democracies (the US and
the UK, respectively) for standing up against horrendous abuse of humanity
by the Anglo-American Coalition in Iraq. The Nazi analogy adduced by Dr
Kendall-Smith in his defence is germane. The Nazis killed 1.5 million Jewish
children during World War 2. So far, the post-1990 Iraqi infant mortality
totals 1.6 million and the post-2003 infant mortality totals 0.4 million –
90% of these deaths have been AVOIDABLE and have occurred through the
non-provision by the Occupying Coalition of the life-preserving requisites
demanded by the Geneva Conventions. The under-5 infant mortality in Iraq
(post-1990) and Afghanistan (post-2001) have been 1.6 million and 1.4
million, respectively, and now total 3.0 million (see MWC News for the
latest UN and UNICEF mortality figures ). How many infants have to be
murdered before the world cries “enough is enough”?…

Dear Eric Lichtblau

Dr. Dhafir has had appellate lawyers confirmed, they are Peter Goldberger and Barry Boss.

Peter Goldberger has worked on 150-200 federal appeals over 30 years, many of them political cases. He has been listed on “Best Lawyers in America” for the last 10 years and two years in a row listed as a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer.” He also does pro bono work for people of conscience resisting paying taxes for war. I now feel that Dr. Dhafir is in the best possible hands; it still may not mean that justice is achieved, but it’s the best possible chance. I just posted a piece on my website that gives information about these two lawyers: http://www.dhafirtrial.net/?p=375

I also wanted to let you know that I have published my correspondence to you on my website.
