We do not have a date yet for Dr. Dhafir’s resentencing but should hear any time. Â Dr. Dhafir’s lawyer, Peter Goldberger, has supplied us with clear guidelines for writing the most effective letters to Judge Mordue. Â Please read Peter’s guidelines carefully and then take the time to write this very important letter to Judge Mordue, it is Rafil’s best hope.

If there is a single takeaway from the thirteen years of “crippling sanctions” against Iraq, it’s that the program didn’t work. Neocons and their allies – who pushed for a full invasion in the first Gulf War – were declaring as much in 1998, by which time they were already calling for blood. Eventually, they got their wish, and mired the U.S. – not to mention Iraq and the broader Middle East – in the ensuing disaster. Â (more…)

For years, Internet advocates have warned of the doomsday scenario that will play out on Monday: Google and Verizon will announce a deal that the New York Times reports “could allow Verizon to speed some online content to Internet users more quickly if the content’s creators are willing to pay for the privilege.” (more…)
