As a practioner and President of the Arab Lawyers Association (UK) I am doubly disturbed.

On the one hand Dr. Rafil Dhafir is being made to suffer along with his family for an act that is moral, ethical and more important NOT illegal or unlawful by any stretch of imagination. Injustice dehumanise ALL OF US not only the victim.

On the other hand the United States of America has always taken the higher moral ground both domestically and internationally. It no longer can. It is disturbing that it is so difficult to defend the stances that the US is taking in many instances. Guantanamo Bay, the Patriot Act, the Iraq Liberation Act, Abu Ghraib, and the lies that were pronounced in the UN as well in other forms and instances to justify its actions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine to name a few.

To deny Dr. Rafil Dhafir justice reduces that great country to a tin pot dictatorship. Where is the American Bar Association? The effect of this denial of justice to a one person by such a super power give encouragement to dictatorships to follow the leader, it robs the US and other the argument against injustice.

Seeding injustice will result in the US and all of us to reap the consequences.

May the All Mighty Lord give Dr. Rafil Dhafir and his family the strength to bear the injustice without loosing faith in God or in humanity.

To Dr. Dhafir Support Committee we applaud you for your effort and courage and for giving people faith in humanity. Thank you

[KH: Zainab Alani, I deleted your post by mistake so re-posted it myself.]

Name: Zaineb Alani Date: 8/22/2008

Dear Dr. Dhafir,
As an Iraqi who suffered and watched my people suffer under the sanctions, I cannot thank you enough for all your efforts to help save my people.
Millions of babies perished while the sanctions persisted, and you tried to save them and keep them alive.
It is tragic that your humanitarian efforts are being rewarded with perecution and antagonism of the worst kind today. You would think that this would not be typical of a ’so-called’ democracy.
But I am not surprised, these are the same people that consider all Muslims terrorists and consider their race and religion supreme and above all.
I pray that God help you in every moment of your incarceration and solitude away from your family. God is merciful and just, and he will see you through this.
Inshallah, one day soon, you will know the freedom you deserve.
Amen,
Zaineb Alani

This is a horrible if fascinating case and indicative of just how far a corrupt regime will go in using the guise of "justice" to enforce its will upon the obviously innocent.

All those who support the eminent and couragous Dr. Rafil here in the UK hope this excellent press release will help highlight the plight not only of Dr. Rafil and other Muslims who have been persecuted but of all prisoners needlessly interred by a system that has increasingly little to do with "justice" and more to do with politics and spiteful retribution of an evil Superpower which cannot bear to acknowledge its own failures or admit that it might be wrong.
