By Coleen Rowley Former FBI agent, Whistle Blower and a Time Magazine’s Person of the Year (2002)

Coleen Rowley rose to prominence in May 2002 after she wrote her infamous memo to FBI Director Robert Muller exposing FBI intelligence failures which occurred just weeks before the September 11 attacks. Since then she has written extensively about the issues of civil liberties and criticized the US response to 9/11 including detentions of numerous innocent Muslims and South Asians. She has also explained how and why torture is wrong, illegal and doesn’t work.
