Freedom Delayed for Dr. Sami Al-Arian
There have been several important developments in the case of Dr. Sami Al-Arian, which was thought to have been resolved last May. Last week, Dr. Al-Arian was placed in civil contempt for refusing to testify before a grand jury in Virginia, prolonging his imprisonment by up to 18 months. (more…)

Unveiling new research indicating that 75% of those polled in the capital support the right of Muslims, and those of other faiths, to dress “in accordance with their religious beliefs”, Ken Livingstone criticised the “barrage” of attacks as an assault on freedom of religious and cultural expression. A great democracy offers citizens sharp political choices. That’s what gives political freedom meaning. With two-party control of America’s political system, political options and discourse are stifled. We badly need more visible third-parties that can fully participate and reach the public with information about their platforms and candidates. In a nation that so worships competition it is hypocritical that there is so little political competition. (more…)
