Below are the words of Dirk Adriaensens, a member of the Executive Committee of the Brussels Tribunal, which invited Dr. Dhafir in January of this year to be their sole honorary member of their advisory committee:

“We invited Dr. Dhafir to become an honorary member of the BRussells Tribunal Advisory committee, as a symbol of the opposition against the UN sanctions imposed on Iraq, that starved over a million Iraqis.”

and

“It is a common principle in international law, following the Nueremberg trials, that anyone who has knowledge about gross violations of human rights, has the DUTY to disobey orders and to act according to his conscience. That’s exactly what Dr. Dhafir has done….

“The sanctions regime imposed on the people of Iraq for over a decade is one of the great injustices of our time. It has brought starvation and disease to millions of innocent Iraqis….

“Everybody could have known what was happening inside Iraq. The genocide happened right under our noses. Dr. Dhafir and a lot of other people had the courage to help the suffering people in Iraq, not only with words, but with deeds. He should be an example for us all, instead of being sentenced for 22 years.”
